GYROKINESIS® method classes allow one to work on the entire body through the natural elements of spinal movement; arching (extension), curling (flexion), side arching (lateral flexion), and spiralling (rotation), as well as all other joint articulation.
This method is the brainchild of the developer Juliu Horvath and has evolved over the past 40 years, popular now throughout the world and offered here in Nicaragua for the first time.
Prior to breakfast you will have the opportunity to experience the GYROKINESIS® awakening series which encompasses a self massage and dry scrubbing to awaken your senses and prepare your body for the day’s activities.
Our retreat days will include an invigorating 90 minute class format with a focus on fluid, tension-free movement, incorporating rhythmic breathing patterns. The method is highly adaptable and accessible to everyone, it will enhance your ability to decompress your spine, in essence feel more upright, instill a sense of calmness whilst increasing your mobility, strength and flexibility. Intrinsically the class will assist you to understand how your body is connected and that we all have the tools inside ourselves to heal and move more efficiently.
Classes are performed on stools and floor work on mats. Most classes begin sitting and moving on a stool, then progress to floor work; connecting the upper and lower body, hip mobilization, a back extension series, and finish on the floor with an abdominal series. The class comes to a conclusion with a standing unwinding series of exercises designed to reconnect back to your ‘seed centre’ and re-balance your energy.
Developed by Joseph Pilates in the mid 1930’s is immensely popular today worldwide. Pilates is a system of physical and mental conditioning that enables you to increase your core strength, as well as toning your entire body. The method has six major principals; Concentration, Control, Centering, Precision, Flowing Movement and Breathing, through the use of these principals you experience how to use your body to its greatest advantage. You will learn to make the most of your body’s strengths, counteract its weaknesses, and correct its imbalances while creating a union of mind and body. Classes can be modified for all levels.
Simply Stretching is a guided 20 minute routine that you will learn to take away with you when you leave your “resetUretreats”. This session is suited to everyone and will serve as our wind down each day prior to your evening massage or chill out before dinner. This routine reduces muscular tension and improves your posture. By practicing this routine for 20 minutes 4 times a week you will enjoy consistent improvement in joint mobility as well as increasing your overall wellbeing.
Aqua Fusion Flow and Power are two classes developed by Carmen Sterland over the past 20 years and set to music. Carmen started to develop a water barre class as a professional dancer to help heal her dance related injuries. Water promotes circulation as well as healing in the body, is low impact, and reduces the gravitational load. Carmen taught these classes exclusively at the Gwinganna Lifestyle Retreat in Queensland Australia for the past 9 years and will introduce them at resetUretreats.
Aqua fusion flow uses a pool noodle to assist participants to flow through a sequence of dynamic full-body movements using the resistance of the water and the floatation device. This class is traditionally done in deep water so the body can be fully suspended and the joints can truly surrender to the water. You will leave this class feeling elongated, tension-free yet energized from the workout. This class is adaptable for all levels.
Aqua fusion power uses two pool noodles and increases the intensity of the movements for the muscles of trunk, legs and arms. Increased resistance and speed, makes this class more dynamic and cardiovascular. This class is a high intensity core workout without the impact.
DIY Re-Alignment is a floor class inspired by traditional Japanese Osteopathy, So Tei Ho to help align the body and restore symmetry to the muscles supporting the major joint junctions. Re-Alignment is a holistic approach that encourages self-awareness, intuition and sensitivity. Through learning the use of simple principles of isometrics the work gently creates an environment in your body that promotes change and allows you to facilitate self-adjustment. Re-Alignment will provide you with a DIY maintenance approach you can take home and use to restore balance and harmony in your body.
resetUretreats will be limited to 12 participants in order to allow for individual attention and encourage an experiential approach to the movement disciplines.
All guests will arrive on Saturday, there will be a welcome dinner on the Saturday night, and resetUretreat activities Sunday-Wednesday. Thursday and Friday will be free days to enjoy the wide array of activities in the area and to roam the beautiful beaches of San Juan del Sur.
Surfing, horseback riding, kayaking, Mombacho volcano tours with hiking, and zip lining are some of the activities available in the area.
Alternatively you could have a Spa day at the lovely Aqua Spa, or take a day trip to visit Granada the oldest colonial city in the mainland Americas and Nicaragua’s most popular tourist attraction on the shores of Lake Nicaragua. Granada has pretty pastel streetscapes, cobblestones and horse drawn carriages, as well as many artistic shops and a wide array of cuisine local and European. Alternately you might just want to spend some time chilling out and relaxing by your pool at your 5 star accommodation house at Malibu at Pacific Marlin.

Carmen is owner/operator of Pure Balance Pilates in Murwillumbah, NSW, Australia.
As an Honours Dance Graduate from West Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), she was privileged with a solid foundation to her chosen discipline and insight into the human form. With her early career in Australia and abroad as a professional dancer, Carmen has experienced her own personal journey with pain and injury which gives her a unique edge over other practitioners.
With a keen desire to grow in her knowledge and field, her dance contracts took her across the globe. She continued to train under a Japanese Master of Osteopathy So Tei Ho for a year in Kamogawa, Japan. Then onto Brussels, Belgium for 3 year post graduate studies in Clinical Pilates followed by intensive trainings with Iyengar Yoga Masters in Poland. Carmen is a certified level 1 GYROTONIC® instructor as well as a licenced GYROKINESIS® level 1 instructor, she has trained with GYROTONIC® Melbourne under the mentorship of Dana Rader and is happily integrating this work into her studio offerings.
Carmen has been working at Australia’s’ largest health getaway Gwinganna Lifestyle Retreat, hinterland Gold Coast as Program Manager for the past 10 years. She is driven by her desire to inspire people with her passion for health and wellbeing through movement.
Dana is the owner/operator of GYROTONIC® Melbourne at Energy Kinetics in Melbourne Australia. She is an international specialized master trainer in both GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS®; methodology. Dana has also practised Pilates since the 1980’s and holds certifications with Polestar Pilates in Post-Rehab Pilates, Australian Pilates Method Association, Mat and Standing Mat by Physical Mind Method, and most recently a Diploma of of Contemporary Pilates and Teaching Methodology.
Dana is an accredited Exercise Physiologist, with a post graduate Diploma in Exercise Science Rehabilitation from Charles Sturt University in New South Wales, Australia.
Dana has presented at conferences both nationally and internationally, as well as being invited to teach as a guest trainer at various health retreats.
Dana is passionate about her work and continues to update and expand her knowledge each year.
