What is an Exercise Physiologist?

Exercise physiologists complete a minimum of a 4-year university degree and are qualified allied health professionals who play an important role as physical activity and exercise specialists. Their role is to assess, plan and implement exercise programs for preventing and managing chronic diseases and injuries, such as diabetes, osteoporosis, depression, and arthritis and assist in restoring optimal physical function. Through providing exercise prescription, as well as lifestyle and behavioral modification programs they strive to promote health and wellness to their patients and clients.

Exercise Physiologists can provide treatment for people of all ages from children through to seniors.  Dana’s focus with regards to her practice include the following chronic conditions: diabetes, osteoporosis, fall prevention (focus on balance and mobility), chronic fatigue, arthritis, chronic pain, musculoskeletal conditions such as lower back, shoulder, hip and knee pain management and rehabilitation following hip and knee replacement.
