Carmen Sterland

Carmen has been excited about movement ever since her first dance class at the age of 5years old. Her love of music and the arts inspired a professional dance career and  today spills over into her more recent love, teaching.

Graduating with Honours from WAAPA in 2000, Carmen left Australia having been granted an Artist Visa to tour Japan with an Australian troop set for London.

Along with the dedication and training that goes with becoming a professional dancer, Carmen has had the great privilege of sharing her love of movement beyond the stage in varying capacities as choreographer rehearsal director and teacher.

She auditioned in Tokyo at the International Choreographic World Dance Alliance in 2001 and went on to Europe, dancing with companies in Belgium, Norway, Poland and Italy.

Primarily as a Contemporary dancer, career highlights include working with Stockholm State Theatre Company under the Direction of Sir Robert Wilson as well as collaborations in Taiwan with her close friend  and renowned choreographer WenChi Su.

In recent years she has been an ambassador for her own AquaPilates brand (2xU 2011-12) within elite sports environments and has worked in clinical rehabilitation for some of Australia’s leading Olympic and Para-Olympic athletes ( 2005-2015).
